Mto wa Mbu

Mto wa Mbu — Swahili for 'River of Mosquitoes' — is a vibrant market town at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment, sitting at the junction of several major safari routes. Despite its name, it is one of the most culturally diverse settlements in Tanzania, with over 120 tribes represented. The surrounding area offers rich agricultural land, banana plantations, rice paddies, and the nearby Lake Manyara. Village walks and bicycle tours through the area offer an authentic glimpse into rural Tanzanian life and Maasai culture.
