Your Itinerary
Arrival & Stone Town Discovery
Upon landing at Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, you will be warmly met by a Tanzanite Signature Safaris representative holding a name board, assisted through arrivals, and driven in a private, air-conditioned vehicle to Tembo Hotel-a beachfront property built into a restored 19th-century mansion on the Stone Town seafront. Check in, with a welcome drink, and time to freshen up after your flight. In the afternoon, set out on a guided walking tour of Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your guide will lead you through the narrow, winding alleyways lined with carved wooden doors, past the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe), the House of Wonders (Beit al-Ajaib), the Sultan's Palace Museum, and the sobering site of the former slave market, now home to the Anglican Cathedral. The route winds on through Darajani Market, the aromatic spice stalls, and the waterfront at Forodhani Gardens. Spice Farm Tour & Transfer to Nungwi
Start the day with breakfast at Tembo Hotel, overlooking the Indian Ocean, before checking out mid-morning for your private transfer north to Nungwi — a scenic drive of roughly 1.5–2 hours through village roads and coconut plantations. Midway, you'll break the journey at a working spice farm for a guided walking tour through the plantation. Your local guide will point out and let you touch, smell and taste the cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, black pepper, cardamom, lemongrass and turmeric growing on the trees and vines — the very crop that earned Zanzibar its name as the "Spice Island." Along the way, farm hands often weave small souvenirs from palm leaves — hats, ties, or rings — as a playful local tradition. • • • Hands-on spice identification walk (touch, smell & taste) Tropical fruit tasting when in season (jackfruit, breadfruit, starfruit) Traditional local spice lunch, cooked with farm-grown ingredients After lunch, continue the drive to Nungwi on Zanzibar's northern tip, arriving in the late afternoon at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis, set directly on one of the island's finest white sand beaches. Check in, settle into your room, and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure by the beach or pool before dinner is served at the hotel.
Leisure Day & Sunset Cruise
Wake up to breakfast overlooking the ocean, then enjoy a full day at leisure with no fixed schedule. Nungwi's calm, shallow lagoon and powder-white sand make it ideal for swimming, sunbathing, or simply reading in the shade of a beach umbrella. The hotel's pool, loungers and beachfront bar are all at your disposal, and lunch is served at the hotel around midday. As the afternoon cools, gather at the jetty to board a traditional wooden dhow for a shared sunset cruise along the Nungwi coastline — sailing out as the sky shifts through amber and rose tones over the Indian Ocean, a classic and much-loved Zanzibar experience. Since the boat is shared with other guests, it's a relaxed, sociable way to close the day. Approx. 1.5–2 hour dhow sailing, weather and tide permitting Shared boat-a light drink is typically served on board Return to the hotel for dinner after the cruise Dinner is served at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis on your return, followed by a free evening.
Dolphin Tour, Mnemba Snorkeling & Sandbank
After an early breakfast, take boat for a full morning on the water- one of the most anticipated days of the trip. The boat first heads out in search of pods of wild dolphins, often spotted swimming and leaping in the open water off Zanzibar's northeast coast (sightings are common but depend on the pod's movements that morning). From there, you'll continue to Mnemba Atoll, one of the finest snorkeling sites in the Indian Ocean, where calm, clear waters reveal vibrant coral gardens and reef fish just below the surface — mask, snorkel and fins are provided, with crew on hand to guide you to the best spots. Wild dolphin spotting in open water Snorkeling over the coral reefs of Mnemba Atoll Visit to a shifting sandbank in the middle of the ocean Starfish sighting in the shallow lagoon waters Weather and tides permitting, the boat will also stop at a natural sandbank — a strip of pure white sand rising out of the open sea — for photos and a swim, and at a shallow lagoon area known for starfish. Throughout the morning, the crew serves fresh tropical fruits, bites, soda and mineral water on board, with a maximum of 2 bottles of light beer per person included. You'll return to the hotel around noon to early afternoon, where lunch and dinner are served at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis.
Full Relaxation Day
With the excursions behind you, Day 5 is left completely open- a full day to slow down and enjoy Nungwi Dreams by Mantis at your own pace, with no activities scheduled. Spend the morning on the beach, take a swim in the lagoon at high tide, relax by the pool, or simply sleep in after an active few days. Free time on the beach and at the pool Optional add-ons available on request: spa treatments, kite-surfing lessons, or a scenic sunset walk along the shore Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all served at the hotel, and the rest of the day is entirely yours.
Departure
Enjoy a final relaxed breakfast at Nungwi Dreams by Mantis, and, if your flight schedule allows, some last free time by the beach before check-out. Our driver will collect you at the hotel and transfer you back to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, with timing arranged around your departure flight to ensure a comfortable, unhurried journey to check-in. This marks the end of a memorable Zanzibar journey with Tanzanite Signature Safaris- kwaheri na safari njema (goodbye and safe travels).
